Grieving
By Kay Bradnum
A sad subject, but one which comes to all of us who have opened our hearts to dogs. Many struggle to cope with the loss of a pet, especially if they are surrounded by people who think it’s ‘only a dog’. There is no right or wrong; we all grieve in our own way, but we thought it would be interesting to see how others deal with it.
To start us off, here’s what I do. I’ve had to cope with this many times over the years, and have found that having the ashes returned to me is very traumatic, and I don’t cope with it. To me, those ashes are nothing to do with the dog in my mind, so we have this little memory tree in the living room. Dog (and cat) ID tags are added so I have the reminder, but in a way I can deal with.
How about you?
